Cullifords Surface Trends 2024

2024 surface trends with Cullifords

With 2024 just around the corner, discussion has turned to the latest trends making waves in the interior design world. From colours and patterns to lifestyles and specific eras, Oliver Webb, director at Cullifords is on hand to discuss the biggest trends to look out for over the coming year.

Dark colours

“The use of dark colours in interior design has been a recurring trend in recent years, due to the opulence they tend to evoke. Daring yet sophisticated, dark colours such as deep blues, rich greys and blacks will add a touch of luxury and drama to a space.

Our Belvedere Quartzite, Black Forest Marble and Katuba Blue Granite are great examples of how to use darker colours in a room. They show the versatility that dark colours offer and also highlight texture in a way that lighter colours cannot, adding further depth to the design.”

Traditional redefined for a contemporary feel

“Redesigning traditional interior design to offer contemporary appeal involves blending classic elements with modern aesthetics, functionality and materials. The popularity of this trend has been apparent for some time, due to its versatile, timeless and fresh qualities. Contemporary design often emphasises clean lines, whilst traditional interiors favour character, but when paired together, the result is a well balanced and thoughtful space.

Warm and inviting, this design trend works best when a modern colour palette is used. Mix neutral tones with bold, contemporary shades by pairing classic cream with grey, as seen with our Concrete Quartz. Or complement rich burgundy with a dashing of white and black marble, such as our Terra Bianca Satinato Marble. The result will be a stylish and chic scene, with a personalised element.”

Personality rich interiors

“Ever since the invention of social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest, the trend for personality-rich interior design has grown. It’s important for a homeowner to understand what their design style is, as this trend is extremely personal. Whether it’s minimalist, maximalist, traditional or contemporary, a homeowner should be able to tell a story through their design choice. The most important aspect of this trend is that homeowners create a space that is authentically ‘them’.

Homeowners should choose colours that resonate with their personality, as colours tend to play a significant role in creating an atmosphere. Bold greens, such as our Marinace Verde Granite option, makes for an eye-catching statement, as does our striking patterned Agata Blu Porcelain material.”

Retro design

“Drawing inspiration from the past, retro design celebrates nostalgia and often combines elements from 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and even the 1980s. This trend captures the essence and aesthetics of this bygone era. The trend is enduringly popular due to the timeless quality of the style. It also tends to be eye-catching and distinctive, often incorporating interesting patterns and quality materials, like our Sapien Stone Seminato Candido and Sapien Stone Seminato Nero.

There is also a connection to sustainability, something which is becoming more popular by the year. Many homeowners are choosing to repair old furniture and interiors to their former glory, giving them a new lease of life, reducing waste and helping the environment.”

Statement walls & floors

“Another design trend is the demand for statement walls and floors. These have become more popular with homeowners that are looking for ways to enhance a space’s aesthetics, functionality and personality.

Statement materials, such as our Picasso Gem semi-precious panel and Lagoa pink Marble will instantly bring a wall to life, whether in the bedroom, kitchen or bathroom.”

Functional & Natural

“One trend which is going nowhere is the demand for functional and natural interiors. Aesthetically pleasing, practical, comfortable and environmentally conscious, this trend suits a wide variety of homes, whether contemporary, traditional, a house or a flat.

Embracing a minimalist approach, the aesthetic is simple and uncluttered, whilst exuding a sense of calm and serenity. The colour green is often associated with natural elements, making our Calacatta Verde Marble, Verde Gauguin Granite and Verde Tinos Marble perfect options to consider.”
