Built in the 1800s, the home had undergone a three-year restoration, with the owners focusing on bringing the property back to its original glory. They painstakingly reinstated intricate coving and enlisted a local decorative artist to hand-paint the walls, recreating the authentic, imperfect plaster finish that defines the era. However, it was the kitchen where deVOL truly shone, creating a space that was both timeless and practical.

The couple chose Bakehouse Green for their painted Classic English furniture, bringing a sense of warmth and tradition to the space. Their goal was clear—no open shelving or glass, just concealed storage behind doors and drawers. Everything had to be within easy reach, yet the room had to remain clutter-free. The restrained beauty of the design was evident, with the only visible display being a simple, aged brass rail above the range cooker, adorned with classic copper pots.

At the heart of the kitchen, a deVOL Dairy Table from the Heirloom collection took centre stage. Topped with cool Carrara marble, the table extends on one side, creating space for bar stools and inviting guests to join in the cooking experience. This practical yet beautiful piece has become a deVOL favourite, thanks to its perfect blend of function and elegance.

The copper accents, hand-aged in deVOL’s metal studio, added drama and depth to the space. A full-length copper run, complete with an integrated double-bowl sink and hammered draining board, drew the eye, while a matching copper splashback behind the cooker added a striking focal point. The copper’s warm, reflective glow transformed the room, giving it a moody yet inviting atmosphere.

This Blackheath kitchen is a true testament to deVOL’s ability to create bespoke designs that are not only beautiful but also incredibly functional. The blend of traditional and contemporary elements—along with the impeccable craftsmanship—makes this kitchen a space that both honours the home’s history and serves the practical needs of modern living.
