Brewing innovation: Master the Cafécore kitchen trend with Second Nature

A new trend has taken the Pinterest world by storm, with ‘cafécore’ looking to be one of the standout design styles of the year. The trend brings coffee shop glamour to residential kitchens. Channelling that cosy and traditional coffee shop feel, the trend is inspired by the warmth and charm of local neighbourhood cafés, focusing on comfort, style and functionality.

Ashleigh Hanwell, senior designer at Second Nature, explains how to incorporate this look into the home.

“Cafécore kitchens are designed to evoke the cosy ambience of a traditional coffee shop, with soft lighting and comfortable seating areas. The colour scheme is a key element for setting the right tone, so choose warm colours and earthy tones that create a homely and nostalgic feel for friends and family. Layering colours like rust red, soft grey and warm white will add gentle depth and interest.”

Introduce shelves & accessories

“Installing open shelving or glass-fronted cupboards to display your favourite kitchen accessories, such as mugs, a coffee machine and jars full of coffee beans, not only adds interest but also helps to create a curated, café-like vibe. Incorporating witty slogans on the wall or adding a chalkboard with details of the week’s menu are also great ways to exude a coffee shop aesthetic.”

Create an inviting atmosphere with warm colours

Add a comfortable seating area

“No matter the size of your kitchen, there are a number of different seating ideas available. For those with limited space, banquette seating is a great use of space – not only as it creates a cosy corner for catching up, but you can also add built-in storage under the seating, turning an awkward corner into a functional one. This can either be in the corner of your kitchen or as part of your island for example. My advice would be to install your seating in a space with the best outlook, whether this is opposite a window with a view of the garden or looking out across the kitchen, as this will make hosting duties easier and more social.”

Create a dedicated coffee station

No cafécore kitchen would be fully complete without a dedicated coffee station. Choose a convenient and accessible location to position it and make sure to incorporate storage solutions so that the surrounding area remains tidy and clutter-free. This area can either be on the worktop in its own corner or opt for a dedicated pantry-style coffee space as part of your pantry. A coffee station certainly adds a touch of comfort as well as luxury.”

Available through a network of over 180 independent UK showrooms and retailers, Second Nature is ready to help every homeowner create their perfect space, whether it’s re-imagining an entire house or providing the finishing touch to a smaller room.
