Formica Paper Terrazzo wins German Design Award
Laminate pioneer Formica Group is among this year’s winners of the prestigious German Design Awards. Formica Group entered with Paper Terrazzo, its new stand-out decorative surface combining a sustainability focus with the trend-forward look of Terrazzo.
Joining the increasing drive for designers around the world to utilise waste products that might otherwise go to landfill, Paper Terrazzo uses waste from paper manufacturing. Each sheet of Paper Terrazzo high pressure laminate (HPL) is unique, making use of 30% reclaimed paper material chipped and added to the regular pulp in a small batch craft paper-making process.
The jury comments: “The idea to recycle paper waste in the form of small shreds as the basis for a terrazzo look décor was implemented very well. The HPL impresses with ever-new, never-repeating patterns and a unique, striking aesthetic. An innovative product that is also a winner when it comes to sustainability.” Chosen by a highly esteemed international jury, the German Design Awards celebrate unique design trends and promote innovation within the global design community. Prizes are awarded to projects that truly represent pioneering contributions to the international landscape.
