Hit BBC show drives increase in waste disposal unit searches

Popular BBC show Amandaland has driven a rise in the interest in ‘waste disposal units’, with Google searches increasing by 183% in the past month alone, InSinkErator says.

Episode three of the show, which launched in February, explores lead character Amanda’s ‘collab’ with a local kitchen business and follows her attempts to promote Sinkliminators—a fictional “ultimate food waste disposal unit”.

InSinkErator regularly monitors search trends relating to its products and the recent episode focus of Amandaland has indeed transferred into the real world. The show has inspired more homeowners to consider upgrading their kitchens, especially when it comes to installing a food waste disposer.

Anne Kaarlela, marketing communications and customer service manager in Europe, commented: “When we saw episode three of the comedy series, we laughed and could see the tongue-in-cheek parallels – we’re pleased it’s had a positive impact.

“The fact that the series has been so popular has been reflected in recent search data, and this was something we couldn’t ignore. We think something like this may drive more enquiries to retailers, with people walking through their doors wanting to know more about how they can get their hands on a product like the fictional Sinkliminator they’ve seen on TV.

“That’s where we come in, and we’re ready to show how our food waste disposers are the real-life, game-changing answer to this.”

InSinkErator offers a practical, odour-reducing and convenient solution for those looking to upgrade their kitchen tech with a food waste disposer. With a variety of models available, retailers can offer a perfect fit for every household.

The brand recently launched its Next Generation products and accompanying POS material for showrooms.
