InSinkErator® partners with homeless charity

To support its local community and the vital work of the charity, InSinkErator® has partnered with New Hope, an organisation that helps individuals who are homeless, or vulnerably housed in Watford, Hertfordshire.

New Hope provides short-term accommodation services and support to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Watford. The charity has three properties dedicated to supporting individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. To support those staying at the property during a tough period in their lives, InSinkErator® has donated two 4N1 Touch taps to New Hope House, a 10-bedded property that provides accommodation for those on a 30-day detox period. InSinkErator® has also provided a 4N1 Touch tap to The Manse, a four-bedded house, which offers shelter for those who have completed the detox period and are in the second stage of their recovery. By providing specialist kitchen taps to New Hope, InSinkErator® is supporting the charity to reach its sustainability targets by offering an alternative to a kettle that can minimise water waste, save energy and reduce single-use plastic waste.

In addition, once a month, groups of employees at InSinkErator® are volunteering to cook and serve breakfast at the Haven, New Hope’s drop-in support and advice centre. InSinkErator® employees also donated winter clothing to New Hope this autumn including coats, jumpers and trainers to enable the charity to supply warm clothing to those who need it in preparation for winter. A further £500 was donated by InSinkErator® to provide additional winter essentials, and employees are participating in New Hope’s Christmas donation scheme in December, offering Christmas gifts to individuals accessing the services.

Anne Kaarlela, marketing communications and customer service manager, Europe, InSinkErator®, says: “We are pleased to be able to support the local community and those in need by partnering with New Hope, who does some amazing work. This partnership not only gives the opportunity for the business to support New Hope with donations, but our employees can be involved too. We hope the donated products will provide comfort for those staying at New Hope House, and The Manse, during a difficult time as well as support New Hope with its sustainability goals.”

Joe Meehan, fundraising and communications officer, New Hope, comments: “Ever since the 3N1 tap was fitted in the Community Home, we have been hoping to get steaming hot water taps installed at our other properties too, especially because the best support happens over a hot cup of tea. Over the past few years, the 3N1 has seen a huge amount of use in the busy kitchen and has been so beneficial for getting a hot drink quickly without waiting for a kettle to boil. The energy efficiency of the tap is extremely valuable to us also when compared to using a kettle. We are therefore delighted with the donation of the 4N1 Touch taps from InSinkErator®, as well as the company’s continued support.”

In 2018, InSinkErator® donated the 3N1 steaming hot water tap to New Hope’s Community Home, which offers individuals facing homelessness short-term accommodation and a sense of community. Providing instant access to steaming hot water at the touch of a button, the 3N1 tap was donated in an effort to save time and make life easier for Community Home staff during busy periods.
