Food action week

InSinkErator® supports food waste action week

InSinkErator® is supporting Food Waste Action Week with a variety of social media activities to increase the awareness of the campaign and arranging giveaways for the consumer to win an InSinkErator® food waste disposer.

In addition, InSinkErator® is providing support to the Watford Food Bank, which is situated near to the InSinkErator® UK headquarters.

Food Waste Action Week is an initiative devised by WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) and focusses on the message that ‘Wasting Food Feeds Climate Change’. WRAP aims to change consumers attitudes and behaviours towards food, encouraging everyone to make lifestyle changes that benefit the environment by sharing statistics on the impact that food waste has on the world we live in. For example, UK households throw away 4.5 million tonnes of edible food every year1 and wasted food accounts for more global greenhouse gas emissions than flying1. The initiative promotes reusing leftovers to create new dishes and storing food correctly to ensure all edible food is eaten.

Despite our best efforts, some food waste, such as vegetable peelings and egg shells, is inevitable. An InSinkErator® food waste disposer is a convenient solution to this problem and safely grinds inedible food waste with ease, especially when home composting is not possible. Using a food waste disposer diverts food waste from ending up in landfill. Furthermore, with less food waste in landfill, the household’s carbon footprint and the associated greenhouse gases are also reduced.

An InSinkErator® food waste disposer is a modern kitchen appliance that fits easily under all sinks, offering an easy, safe and practical solution to managing food waste in the home. Food waste is ground into minute sized particles, thanks to the innovative system of stainless steel grinding rings. It is then dispatched and simply rinsed away down the drain, through the standard plumbing. As the global leader and inventor of food waste disposers, InSinkErator® has a range of models to suit every kitchen, family and lifestyle.

Anne Kaarlela, Marketing Communications and Customer Service Manager, Europe and Russia, InSinkErator®, says: “At InSinkErator®, we champion the Food Waste Action Week initiative and believe it is necessary for us all to make lifestyle changes to protect the future of our planet. It is vital that we all understand the impact of our behaviour and the influence it has on the wider environment. At InSinkErator® we will continue to educate consumers on the effect food waste has at landfill sites, while offering sustainable solutions to reduce the amount of food waste ending up in landfill.

“Make sure to follow the campaign hashtag #FoodWasteActionWeek for hints, tips and recipe ideas, as well as InSinkErator® social media channels for the chance to win a Good Housekeeping approved M 66 food waste disposer for your own home and reduce your carbon footprint.”
