Shades of grey find new lease of life in kitchen design
Shades of grey, white and black are dominating kitchen design in 2018. These versatile, albeit no frill tones, pair with any colour and finish, making them perfect for the modern kitchen.
With moodier aesthetics in demand, as seen at EuroCucina, grey, white and black décors are the perfect building blocks to design a kitchen around. Facilitating this trend, the Formica Infiniti® Worktops range comes in twelve modern décors including four core neutral colours: Graphite, Fog, White and Diamond Black.
Grey
Neutral grey, in its multiple shades, is forever in style. This year is no exception. Greys are being utilised across all surfaces in the kitchen. For the adventurous, charcoal grey is the colour to choose. It breaks up the full white look that comes as default in many kitchens while still remaining a safe and sophisticated aesthetic.
Providing a variety of grey shades in 2018, the Infiniti Worktops range features three exclusive engineered stone patterns, Neo Cloud, Neo Tornado, and Neo Cyclone. There is also the inclusion of Washed Knotty Ash, a unique woodgrain that breaks away from the typical oak and walnut timber aesthetic that comes as standard in most collections and delivers a distinctive limed grain that blends with grey. Teaming a warm subtle wood with a grey kitchen echoes the rest of the colour scheme but uses a complementary material to add depth.
Black
Black appliances remain popular in 2018 and we see kitchen interiors embracing the darker side too. Interior designers are incorporating more and more dark colours in the kitchen to add sophistication to the space. Both Diamond Black and the less imposing Nero Graphite in the Formica Infiniti Worktops range pair perfectly with metallic appliances; the dark worktop adds a focal point to the kitchen, emphasised by the subtle yet contrasting metal hues.
White
The monolithic look has a seamless, fluid and relaxed feel, the use of white marble creates a dramatic statement in the cooking space and is forever on-trend. A classic finish can be created with the inclusion of Formica Infiniti’s Carrara Bianco. Popular in open plan living environments, a monolithic décor delivers a flexibility of design as kitchen accessories can be easily changed in the future as you are not limited by committing to a specific colour that matches.
Matte
Another big trend this year is the matte finish.
Traditionally, matte surfacing has been absent in the kitchen as it is prone to showing unwanted blemishes and can be tricky to keep clean. Formica Infiniti Worktops’ absolute matte surface addresses this issue and heralds a new generation of texture in the home to deliver sensorial impact.
Today’s kitchen is the hub of the home and not just an area for food preparation. It is a place to entertain that also double up as a home office and an environment for kids to do their homework. Formica Infiniti’s anti-fingerprint and anti-abrasion surfacing technology, developed by Formica Group, means the surface stays looking clean whatever the circumstance and as it is made from laminate it also has the properties to ensure the surface does not harbour bacteria.
The worktop’s micro-contours diffuse light to give the surface a depth of colour, providing its marble, wood and stone décors with a visual authenticity. The same contours that give the surface its water repellent qualities also channel moisture away from fingerprints so they don’t leave marks.
Available in six product sizes, the full Formica Infiniti range offers worktops, breakfast bars, splashbacks and upstands, giving complete freedom for a uniform design throughout the whole kitchen or the option to mix and match for visual interest.
Formica Infiniti Worktops carry the Made in Britain marque and are manufactured by Formica Group at its UK manufacturing plant. The Made in Britain campaign is designed to promote and celebrate the manufacture of UK-made goods. Formica Group is the only High Pressure Laminate manufacturer to carry the Made in Britain marque.
