Why 2024 could be a year of opportunity for outdoor kitchens

Outdoor kitchens continue to increase in popularity across the globe and 2024 could prove to be a year of opportunity for kitchen designers in the UK, InSinkErator® believes.

Following the pandemic, when consumers were forced to take an in depth look at their living space, 2024 has the potential to be another pivotal moment for UK consumers to assess their needs and strongly consider an outdoor kitchen.

Why? Because the summer of 2024 could be the summer of hosting. In addition to barbeques and family parties, the EURO Championships and Summer Olympics are happening, alongside events which are a staple of the British calendar, such as Wimbledon and Glastonbury.

According to Google search data, there have been 135,000 searches in the last month for ‘outdoor kitchen’, and searches have increased by 54% in the past quarter as thoughts turn to the summer months. In addition, there are 440.9M ‘Outdoor Kitchen Cooking’ posts currently on TikTok, further signifying its popularity.

A report by the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association revealed that outdoor kitchen sales increased by 18% in 2020, and a recent study by Uswitch found that they have become one of the UK’s most popular home improvement projects.

Therefore, this year provides the ideal opportunity for designers to build on these figures by communicating the benefits of an outdoor kitchen in anticipation of a summer of garden parties, live sporting events, birthdays and family gatherings.

3 key benefits of outdoor kitchens

  1. Increased home value – According to Zillow, homes with outdoor kitchens sell for 30% more than expected.
  2. Increased time outdoors – More time can be spent outdoors in fresh air, enjoying all the associated physical and mental health benefits.
  3. A new hosting space – An outdoor kitchen can be transformative for a garden and has the potential to become a desirable hosting space for years to come.

Food waste disposers for the outdoor kitchen

When entertaining outdoors, inedible food waste is always a consideration and an InSinkErator® food waste disposer solves this problem, in order to keep the space clean, tidy and hygienic.

When installed, inedible food scraps can be disposed of within seconds in a safe and simple manner. The product diverts food waste from landfill and is especially useful where home composting is not possible.

InSinkErator® food waste disposers are available in a wide variety of models, fit easily under all type of sink, and can be installed in both indoor and outdoor kitchens.

Anne Kaarlela, Marketing Communications and Customer Service Manager, Europe, comments: “This summer provides the perfect opportunity for consumers to really consider investing in an outdoor kitchen, thanks to a string of events which are perfect for hosting and watching live.”

She continued: “Kitchen designers can provide reassurance to their customers that they can offer an outdoor kitchen which features a quick and easy way to get rid of inedible food waste. Be it leftover burger meat from watching the football or peppers from a pizza party, our food waste disposers are a forward-thinking solution which can be specified by designers to create an outdoor kitchen that leaves a lasting impression on guests.”

InSinkErator® reinforces that any exterior electrical and/or plumbing appliances be wired and installed correctly according to local regulations, and that plumbing in any exterior installation needs to allow sufficient drainage. InSinkErator® assumes no responsibility for installations.
